Ken Hendrix

Keeper of Records and Seal, Keeper of Finance, Membership Intake Chairman

Brother Ken Hendrix was born and raised in Benton Harbor,
Michigan. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School. Brother
Hendrix and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry
from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas where he was also an
All-Conference basketball player.
While an undergraduate in 1971, he became a member of Epsilon
Psi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., chartered at
Wichita State University. He served as the chapter Keeper of
Records and Seal and Dean of Pledges while a member of Epsilon
Psi.

About What You Do

Following graduation, Brother Hendrix moved to Oakland,
California and went to work for Glidden Paints in San Francisco as
a formulator in their laboratory.
Brother Hendrix joined Pi Chi Chapter in San Francisco. He was soon transferred to the Glidden
laboratory in Portland, Oregon where he would reside for the next eight (8) years.
While working in San Francisco, he met Jocelyn Larremore who he would later marry and bring to
Portland. Brother Hendrix and wife have been married for 42 years. They have two (2) sons, Bakari
and Damany, who were also born while living in Portland. Brother Hendrix made a career change and
went to work at the Bonneville Power Administration laboratory as a chemist and became the
supervisory chemist prior to relocating back to the Bay Area. Fraternally, Brother Hendrix was a
member of Zeta Nu Chapter in Portland where he served as Keeper of Finance, Keeper of Records and
Seal, Vice Basileus, Basileus and Oregon State Representative.
Brother Hendrix accepted a position as a chemist at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and the family moved
back to Northern California and took up residence in Vallejo. Bro. Hendrix worked in the Mare Island
industrial laboratory until just prior to its closure when he transferred to the Environmental Protection
Agency Region 9 Laboratory in Richmond, California. He worked at the EPA until retiring in 2011.
Brother Hendrix has always been involved working with youth. Even as an undergraduate student he
did tutoring of elementary to high school students in the area. Since graduation he has coached Little
League and Babe Ruth League baseball, city league youth basketball, and continued to tutor both
privately and at the Continentals of Omega Boys & Girls Club. He has served with the Tanner/Willie B.
Adkins Project over the past 28 years as a volunteer, staff person and director and is currently serving
a second stint on the Continentals of Omega Boys Club Board of Directors.
Since moving to Vallejo, Brother Hendrix has been affiliated with Theta Pi Chapter where he has served
as Keeper of Records and Seal, Keeper of Finance, Membership Intake Chairman, Vice Basileus and
Basileus. He has been fortunate enough to see both sons become members of the Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Incorporated through Theta Pi Chapter.
